  • Does the work display originality?
  • Does the work impact the viewer in relationship to the theme?
  • Does the work stand on its own as a complete work of art?
  • Is the work aesthetically pleasing? This may include details of the texture and form within a work, including physical and visual.
  • Does the work display fluent form and draftsmanship? This varies as some incorrect proportions are purposeful, but judges may consider them if they are distracting to the viewer and do not support the work.
  • Does the work articulate a balanced composition and fluent use of the medium?

Note: The quality of the images submitted will also play a role in the judging process.

  • The images are best represented at 1000px (no less than 600px) on the longest side and a resolution of 72dpi.  The acceptable file formats includes jpg, gif, and png.
  • Make sure that there are no glares or shadows on the artwork, although shadows may be necessary when photographing 3D artwork.
  • If the work is framed, the frame may be considered when  judged.  Frames should not distract the viewers from the artwork. It is preferred to exclude the glass in a frame, as it may cause a glare or make it difficult to view the artwork’s details.
  • For 2D artwork, hang the work on a solid-colored wall, preferably white or grey because the color may be considered in the judging process; this is so the wall is not distracting or interferes with viewing the artwork. For 3D artwork, color requirement is the same for the background behind the work. For 2D and 3D artwork, a large piece of paper or poster board can be placed behind the work if your wall color does not meet the color requirement. Do not digitally edit the image of your work so that your background meets the requirement.
  • Place the camera in a position so that the work is not tilted or warped in the image. Using a tripod or placing the camera on a stationary surface may prevent blurry images.
  • Include 6-8 images of your artwork including the following:
    • centered front
    • centered front with minimal background (closer than image above)
    • approximately 30 degrees from center of artwork on the right side
    • approximately 30 degrees from center of artwork on the left side
    • zoomed detail of your choice
    • different zoomed detail of your choice
